City Manager Selection Process
The City Council met in closed session on August 15th to discuss the process to fill the City Manager position and ensure a smooth transition of leadership for the organization. The Council carefully weighed the options of focusing their search within the organization or broadening it nationally.
The City Council unanimously decided on an internal selection process due to the proactive investment in succession planning, a desire for a seamless transition, and a hope that the positive momentum the organization is making on so many fronts will be continued under the leadership of the next City Manager.
While the organization is fortunate to have multiple employees qualified to be City Manager, only Derek Johnson, Assistant City Manager, expressed his interest. The Council provided unanimous direction to move forward with the next steps in the process, which includes a closed session assessment of Johnson at the beginning of September to vet him for skills and fit.
Before that meeting, the Council is requesting employee and public feedback through a survey on the immediate priorities and long-term objectives for the City Manager. The survey is available through Wednesday, August 30th.
